busy summer in the studio
A view of my new work in the studio.
An (almost) finished painting. I don't have titles for this yet but it's part of a series of paintings I have been working on overlaying a Star design with a Marijuana leaf design
Another painting in progress. I have been working on a series of paintings using the "peace dove" design I developed over the spring.

mural proposals
Here are a few photoshopped pictures of empty walls around the neighborhood with sketches I made this week. Do you own one of these walls? HAHA JK
My favorite 1. This could happen pretty easily in 1 day with a cherry picker.
evolution of a design
I've been really obsessing over doing my own murals lately. I worked on these designs for a proposal in my sketchbook over the weekend. The ideas start out really flat then gain some depth. My favorites are 4 and 7. I've only done 1 or 2 murals/signs in spray paint but I think it would be really cool to try to make some of those textures you get with pencil and marker with the spray paint.

Anti-Drone Battalion
This design is called something like Anti-Drone Battalion, Peace Dove Brigade, Bleeding Heart Division. I hope to different parts of this design in multiple paintings and prints. The one with the yellow background is finished but I still need to finish the drone on the red and blue background paintings. I like working on multiples and using this graphic style.

Shadow Profile - stages of production in the studio
I worked on this piece, Shadow Profile, in April and May of 2018. These are some process shots from inside my studio showing different stages. The whole piece was made by sewing 7 pieces of standard printmaking and watercolor paper together to make 1 larger "quilted" piece of paper. On this piece of paper I glued down inkjet enlargements of images I had selected for this piece. Once the images had been glued down onto the larger piece of paper I painted out the lighter areas with black paint, leaving an overall dark piece with the sewn lines still exposed. Once the lighter areas were painted out with black paint I used a mop and painted a faint blue swirl over the entire piece. I always wanted to experiment with using a mop to paint after seeing Warhol's large skull paintings. Once the blue swirl dried and I repainted some of the black I cut the piece into vertically angled strips and sewed them back together at a staggered angle. I wanted to reference the way rocks are stratified during earthquakes with these vertical angles.
Inkjet enlargements glued down to the larger piece of "quilted" paper
The lighter ares partially painted black with a blue swirl painted over the whole piece.
More light areas painted over with black, the piece laying on the floor.
All the lighter areas painted over with black and whole piece of paper cut/torn and partially sewn back together.
almost complete but still a few more vertically angled cuts to make in the whole piece
completed and hanging on my studio wall

Small Sewn Pieces
I've been working in the studio on some new small pieces. These are all under 25 inches, some as small as 6 or 7 inches.
