I just finished painting both sides of this aluminum sign for a hair salon down here in Barbados. I was thinking "tropical nouveau" and used a few Mucha illustrations for reference. I am really happy with the outcome and ready to start back up with my own paintings of the island.
finished and hanging
I layed out the sign the "old-school" way with a grid. Since I designed everything by hand and had no access to a projector I decided to draw out the design. This was especially easy with the grid and considering I already had two preliminary designs drawn up.
My second design, taking into consideration the actual dimensions of the sign. I had originally "eye-balled" the dimensions for the first design and I was WAY off. Always get the dimensions correct. Since the client was happy with the design I started choosing a color scheme which is pretty close to the colors I ultimately used.
The initial design lay-out, which, like I said, was way off. But the basic lay-out remained the same.
